    • City High was identified as an EXEMPLAR SCHOOL for college readiness. 
    • City High's student publication The Little Hawk and website has been named a Pacemaker in 2014, 2015, and 2016, 2017
    • One of the only high schools in the country to receive both awards and the only school in Iowa.

  • February 15, 2019

    • Students who plan to take PSEO classes at the University of Iowa next year and students planning to take Chinese class at City HIgh-  There is an informational meeting in the Library during Advisory today- NOW.
    • In response to the district’s decision to add 10 minutes to each school day IC Transit be will modifying the East Side Loop bus schedule in the AM and PM effective on Monday, February 18. Drop off times in the AM will be 7:39AM and 8:36AM for City High School. Pick up times in the PM will be 4:15PM (3:15PM on Thursday) for City High School 
    • If you are interested in playing golf for the Little Hawks Girls Golf Team this Spring you should attend a meeting on Wednesday, February 20 at 8:15AM in Room 1210. If you cannot attend the meeting,  please contact Coach Bevelacqua or Coach Wells prior to Wednesday.  Beginners are welcome!!
    • Sgt Hughley, from the US Marines, will be here next Tuesday, February 19thbeginning at the 11:30 through all three lunch periods.
    • Attention ALL City High students.  Best Buddies will be teaming up with Varsity Boys Basketball for a fun game THIS Friday February 15th at 7:15 in the main gym. Admission is free but for a dollar donation you get a best buddies wristband. Come cheer on your friends!
    • Beginning Monday, February 18th we will start with our revised daily schedule. We will be adding 10 minutes to our school day for the remainder of the school year. Classes will be starting at 8:45AM and end at 4:05PM. 
    • Interested in backpacking in the mountains this summer?  Sign up for the Idaho Wilderness Trek sponsored by Johnson County Conservation. An informational meeting will be next Wednesday, Feb 20during advisory Room 2102. Sign up with  Lestina.  
    • Looking for Silver Cord Hours? We have some elementary schools looking for students to help with their school carnivals.  Details in the Main Office.
    • City High Yearbook are really trying to get everyone in the yearbook this year so we can have a fully diverse book that represents our student body.  If you and your students could email...THEREDANDWHITEYB@GMAIL.COM a great photo from the year. On Fridays we will give out a $5 gift card to Pancheros or Starbucks to the best photo.

  • Making Up Missed School Time

    It goes without saying that this winter has delivered its fair share of inclement weather for our area. It has been quite some time since we have experienced a winter of this magnitude. With that being said, we understand that many of you have questions about how the multiple cancellations, late starts, and early dismissals will impact the end of the school year.

  • Open Enrollment Deadline

    Parents/guardians residing in an Iowa school district may enroll their child into another Iowa school district under the terms and conditions of Iowa Code section 282.18 and the administrative rules of the Iowa Department of Education. Forms to be used are available in the central office of Iowa school districts. For students in grades 1-12, the completed form must be filed with both the resident and receiving district by March 1 of the year preceding the school year for which open enrollment is desired.

  • 2019-20 Elementary Attendance Areas

    The Iowa City Community School District Board of Directors approved new elementary attendance areas for the 2019-20 school year. The new boundaries were approved during their November 27 board meeting. The updated maps can be found on the District website at the following link:

  • Schools Serving as Election Polling Sites

    We have received multiple inquiries regarding our schools serving as election polling locations. While we understand the concern of allowing our schools to be open to the public throughout the school day, we are required by State Statute 49.24 to make our facilities available for this purpose.

  • District ACT Scores Released

    The Iowa City Community School District is excited to share the District’s ACT data for tested 2018 graduates. We are proud to report that once again the District's average composite ACT score of 24.9 exceeds the state's average, which comes in at 21.8 for 2018.

  • John Bacon Welcome to City High School!

    City High is a special place with a rich and distinguished history. Our students are incredible, talented young people. Our families are highly supportive, active, and involved. Our faculty and staff represent true excellence in education. Our alumni share a common bond and continually rally around our beautiful school. Together, we are “The School That Leads!”

    As a proud graduate of City High (1992), I have a deep passion for our school. More than anything else, the experience I had as a student at City High shaped the future direction of my life. It is an honor and a joy to serve as principal.

    At City High, we share a common vision. Our school will be:
