  • Message from the Superintendent

As we prepare to welcome students back for the start of a new school year, we would like to take a moment to remind families of the commitment to safety, equity, and inclusion that the Iowa City Community School District holds. Every student in each of our schools deserves a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment. It is our responsibility as educators to provide this environment. It is also our responsibility to ensure that there are mechanisms in place for students and parents to report instances that do not meet our expectations for such an environment. We then have an obligation to rectify these situations and restore the learning environment for our students.

While this is not the outcome that we were hoping for, we have been preparing for this possibility. We plan to discuss our next steps with the Board during their meeting on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, and we will provide an update to families as soon as possible.
