Ms. Claire Hanson
Hello Students and Families!
Hanson LA8, Book Club, and the Writer's Workshop reside in room E215.
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. I am looking forward to getting to know my new batch of 8th graders. I hope to get to know families as well! My job is to help to prepare students to go to high school next year. My plan is to provide you with scaffolds that you can use to gain knowledge and understanding of many of our core standards - our essential learnings. I hope you will enjoy reading and writing along the way! I want all students to become independent readers, thinkers of big ideas, and purveyors of interesting and thoughtful productions.
I come to teaching late in my professional life. I was a local business owner for about 25 years (telecommunications/data/service business). I have an MA in Literature from the University of Iowa. I received my BS in Education as an English major from Miami University, in Ohio. (back when dinosaurs walked the earth). I had the amazing fortune to be able to step into teaching here at North Central. My first job at NCJH was as the library secretary, and then in a year or so, I earned my first courses of ELA sections. Since then, I have been teaching full time here.
This year I will be teaching 8th Grade Language Arts (branded: HansonLA8), and I will also be teaching electives: Book Club - an amazing opportunity for independent reading, and Writers' Workshop - a workshop environment for those students interested in honing their writing skills (short story, poetry, non-fiction).
I believe in a cooperative environment, collaborative learning, teamwork, and self-direction.
Please let me know any questions or concerns you may have in the course of our school year. I will be using a combination of Canvas and Google Classroom. I can give families certain access to both platforms if you would like to be able to monitor your student's activities.
To reach me, please use email. It is the FASTEST way to get in touch with me. email@example.com
Thanks for your support! Let's have a great year!
