Ms. Diana Hawley

Greetings, Lemme Families! 

Ms. Hawley teaches general music at Lemme Elementary (mornings) and coaches K-12 teachers as an Instructional Strategist of Innovation (afternoons). 

Prior to her work in Iowa City, Ms. Hawley taught K-8 Music at Achieve Language Academy, a charter school in St. Paul, MN, and PreK-5 Music at International School Bangkok (ISB) in Thailand.

Ms. Hawley earned a BA in Music and Sociology/Anthropology from St. Olaf College, an MA in Education from the University of St. Thomas, and is currently enrolled in Boston University's Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education program. 

During the summer months, Ms. Hawley teaches graduate courses in Orff Schulwerk at the University of Kentucky (Level 1/Basic), University of St. Thomas (Orff Curriculum), and University of the Arts (Orff Curriculum). Ms. Hawley is co-editor/author of Artful-Playful-Mindful in Action: Orff-Schulwerk Classroom Projects for a New Generation of Learners, a collection of “authentic stories of real teachers in real classrooms who have undertaken the adventure of introducing a new Orff Schulwerk curriculum to their students – a curriculum that involves making, making up, and making sense of sound.” Ms. Hawley serves on the editorial board of The Orff Echo, the national, peer-reviewed journal and philosophical voice of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.

Ms. Hawley lives in Iowa City and is mom to two incredible boys who attend South East Junior High and City High. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new places, practicing yoga, playing piano, and connecting with friends and family.
