Science Curriculum Review

  • The Iowa City Community School District conducts a district–wide K-12 evaluation of a curricular area on an eight-year cycle. Science began this review process in the spring of 2015 with a survey to the different stakeholders in the district (students, parents, teachers, administrators).  A self-study committee was developed during the 2015-16 school year to spearhead the analysis of the survey and the development of the improvement plan.

The committee tasks include: a review of the mission, beliefs, standards and goals of the curricular area; an analysis of the survey and identification of strengths and limitations of the area; development of an improvement plan which includes recommendations and action steps; and communication with district staff. The committee meets for one one-hour session and two half-day sessions.
