Mann Elementary Staff, Students and Families,
It is with great pleasure that I write and announce my excitement in joining the Horace Mann family as principal. I come to the Iowa City Community School District with a BA from the University of Iowa in Elementary Education and a Master’s from the University of Northern Iowa in Educational Leadership. I have had the opportunity to work as an educator for the last fifteen years - six as a second and third grade teacher in the Cedar Rapids Community School District. Over the past nine years, I have served the Winfield-Mt Union Community School District as the elementary principal and curriculum director. On a lighter side, I am an avid Hawkeye fan, CrossFit enthusiast, volleyball and wrestling official (feel free to ask me about the Dan Gable Donnybrook), and salsa dancer.
Throughout my career, I have learned that the development of strong relationships cannot be undervalued. As I transition to the Mann family, I would like to invite you to share with me what makes you a proud member of the Mann community and what I can do to help our school move forward together. I look forward to building these relationships and learning together with the staff. I firmly believe that every child can learn at high levels and that regular collaborative opportunities are important not just for student learning but professional learning as well.
In closing, please know that my door is open and I am ready to serve my new community. I readily welcome your partnership and positive input throughout the coming school year. Keeping our focus on students and success for all will help keep us all focused and lead us to many future celebrations of our collective success. I look forward to starting our new chapter together as a fellow Mann Mustang!
Sincerely,
Gabe Wylder, Principal
