  • Michelle Cook Welcome to South East Junior High, where you can expect excellence! At South East, we are proud to serve a rich population of diverse learners. Staff at South East pride themselves on forming individual relationships with each student to ensure we are meeting the needs of all learners. South East staff believe that all students can learn at high levels, and they eagerly accept the responsibility of challenging each student.

    Students at South East have a variety of opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities in STEM, athletics, fine arts, and many additional clubs ranging from yearbook to sewing and craft club. We pride ourselves on striving for excellence and providing an enriching, successful, and meaningful experience for each student.

  • District Breaks Ground on New Elementary School in North Liberty

    The Iowa City Community School District broke ground Tuesday on a new school in North Liberty. Grant Elementary School—named after Dr. Christine Grant, a trailblazer in women’s athletics—will open in the fall of 2019. Dr. Grant was present for the groundbreaking alongside future students of the school.

  • RUN CRANDIC Check Presentation

    On May 21, 2018, at Van Allen Elementary, the Iowa City Community School District was presented a check for $27,685, its portion of the fundraising proceeds from the 1st Annual RUN CRANDIC held on Sunday, April 29th. The Cedar Rapids Community School District also was a benefactor of the run, which was sponsored by the University of Iowa Community Credit Union. Roughly 3,100 runners took part in the event.

  • @BePositive Campaign

    The Iowa City Community School District wants to celebrate the amazing work taking place in classrooms across our District thanks to our incredible team of educators, support staff, and administrators. In an effort to share some of these inspiring stories, the District is launching the @BePositive campaign. @BePositive is a platform where students, staff, and parents can submit anonymous comments of praise for those who display positive behaviors and attitudes in our school community. We believe it is important to shed light on the actions taking place that really make a difference in our schools. Continue reading for instructions on how to submit a comment.

  • 2017-18 District Calendar Update

    As a reminder, this year there were hours built into the District calendar to accommodate potential inclement weather. Due to this, there will not be a need to make up the snow day that occurred on February 9, 2018. As it stands, the last day of school for the 2017-2018 school year is May 30, 2018.   • English Language Arts Curriculum Review Survey Is Now Open

    The Iowa City Community School District is reviewing the English Language Arts program, and we need to hear what teachers, administrators, students, and parents think about the program. Your feedback will help us determine the strengths and limitations of the English Language Arts program, so we can make any needed improvements.
