Alison Demory, RDN, LD
Director of Nutrition Services
Children who participate in school meal programs get roughly half of their calories each day at school. This is an extraordinary responsibility and opportunity. Within the Iowa City Community School District we strive to make school meals as healthy, nutritious and delicious as possible. Beginning with the 2012-13 school year, the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) went into effect and required schools to meet multiple nutrition guidelines aimed at improving children’s health and decreasing obesity rates. In everything that we do in the Nutrition Services Department, our mission is to nourish minds.
ICCSD is participating in the Summer Food Service Program where meals will be provided to all eligible children free of charge.
“Iowa City Schools is proud to partner with Field to Family to provide local produce and dairy to our students. Through our partnership, Iowa City Schools have increased the amount of locally-grown food on our school lunch menu annually since 2012.”
Due to the significant decline in participation in the program as the majority of students are now on-site, we will be transitioning to an order-based meal pick-up system for our families with students learning off-site.
Grab & Go Meals
Grab & Go meals will be available for all Iowa City Community School District students at no cost. Each meal includes breakfast and lunch. Menu information can be found at MealViewer, under the Grab & Go menu.
Due to the significant decline in participation in the program as the majority of students are now on-site, Grab & Go meals transitioned to an order-based meal pick-up system for our families with students learning off-site until the end of the school year. Meals can be picked up on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at these locations:
- North Central Junior High

Note: Grab & Go meals will not be served when District offices are closed.
