The Iowa City Community School District has established drive-through or walk-up meal pick-up locations at a number of District sites while schools are closed. Beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, the following schools will provide both lunch for the day and breakfast for the following day. Meals will be distributed between 11 am and 1 pm. Families are asked to stay in their car and wait for the meals to be brought to the vehicle and passed through the window. The District will provide a number of meals based on the number of children in the car ages 1-18. Per USDA federal guidelines, children must be present in order for meals to be provided.
We hope that this update finds you and your family well. On behalf of the entire Iowa City Community School District staff and Board of Directors, you remain in our thoughts and we continue to wish you good health throughout this uncertain time. Below you will find updates and information on multiple topics surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Please know that we continue to put the physical and mental wellness of our students, staff, and families first in our decision-making. We are here to support you in any way that we can; please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.
The workbooks have arrived and we will be distributing these at each of our elementary buildings. Pick up will be available on Tuesday, May 5th between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Parents of all elementary children in grades K-6 should plan on going to your child’s school during this time, and follow the typical “car line” path.

Board Directors voted unanimously during their April 21, 2020 Board Meeting to appoint Degner to the role. Over the last few weeks, we have communicated with you about a variety of resources. Teachers have been asked to connect with students and families each week and to provide assistance with gaining access to Clever, DreamBox, and Lexia. Teachers are monitoring the use of the programs and will reach out to families to determine if any support is needed. If students encounter issues, teachers are able to offer instructional strategies and point parents to resources, within DreamBox and Lexia, that can also offer support.
