PTO Technology Purchases

  • The Iowa City Schools community is a tremendously supportive one, and we thank our parents and community members for the support that you provide.  The district welcomes technology-focused donations, though they must meet the criteria below:

    • The district will accept donations to support the purchase of Chromebooks, Windows laptops and desktops, and iPads, along with other devices as approved by the district.  Questions regarding unlisted technology - such as classroom audio-visual equipment, or makerspace gear - should be directed to Adam Kurth, Director of Technology & Innovation.
    • The district does not generally accept donated equipment, but rather will purchase items directly.  Since the pricelist regularly changes, please contact Adam Kurth for updated price information.
      • Example: if the Twain PTO wanted to donate ten Chromebooks to Twain Elementary, they would first contact Adam Kurth - or arrange for somebody in the building to do so - to determine the district's current Chromebook price.  If that price is $193, then the donation would be in the form of $1,930, rather than ten Chromebooks purchased directly by the PTO.

Will donations impact a school's district technology deployment?

Donations of technology that are targeted at a specific building do not impact the base district deployment of technology to that building.  In the example above, a donation of ten Chromebooks will not result in a reduction in the number of Chromebooks deployed to Twain by the district.
