Mission: Students read for fun, work collaboratively, and use an inquiry process to find, evaluate and use information effectively.
 
Library curriculum
The Iowa City Community Schools Library Curriculum balances literature and information skills instruction. At Penn, classes receive a weekly lesson with the teacher librarian. In addition, the teacher librarian collaborates with classroom teachers to provide instruction that is flexibly scheduled. 

Books and other materials
The library has quality fiction, nonfiction, novel units, and leveled books that support teaching and learning for elementary students.
 
Computers
There are two computer catalog workstations for students and staff to utilize when searching for materials. Students can also utilize their Chromebooks to search for books in the Penn Library catalog.
