• Assessment Opportunities

Optional standardized assessments for home schooled students, either for baseline measures or for the annual assessment, can be taken through the ICCSD or at the area education agency (ISASP). Below you will find information about the FAST screening offered by the Iowa City School District to both dual enrolled students and ICHSAP participants, as well as the ISASP which is available to all home schooled students living in the ICCSD.

ICHSAP and Dual Enrollment families are asked to designate their interest in assessment participation when they fill out their ICHSAP and Dual Enrollment Form at the beginning of the school year. Interested Families  will be alerted when FAST screening and ISASP sign-ups are available prior to each screening period.

If you are home schooling and interested in assessments, but your student is not dual enrolling and/or participating in the ICHSAP, please email ICHSAP secretary, Emily Minnie, with questions at minnie.emily@iowacityschools.org

FAST reading and mathematics universal screening for in grades K-6

Iowa Code section 279.68 requires all children who are students of the Iowa City Community School District in Kindergarten through grade three to be periodically screened for reading or reading readiness. That law also requires the District to offer additional supports for children who are identified as being “persistently at-risk” in reading.

K-6 homeschooling students who have turned in a Form A and are living in the Iowa City School District must be offered the opportunity to be screened for reading or reading readiness. This reading screening is optional for ICHSAP students.
