Frequently Asked Questions

  • About Here Comes the Bus®

What is Here Comes the Bus®, and why might I need it?
Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables you to see the location of your child’s school bus on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer. This way, you know when the bus is near your stop.

    How does it work?
Here Comes the Bus® uses global positioning system (GPS) technology tied to routing software to locate and track your child’s school bus. You can customize when you want to receive the alert, from 250 yards to 2 miles away.

Is the information private and secure?
Here Comes the Bus® uses HTTPS, just like a bank or online store, which means that all communication between your web browser and the site is encrypted and secure.

    How do I sign up?
You can get the free Here Comes the Bus® app if you have a student enrolled in the Iowa City Community School District. It is available in the App Store and Google Play. Use our District's school code: 29216.

    How much does it cost?
Here Comes the Bus® is available at no cost to all families in the Iowa City Community School District.

What is the difference between the mobile app and the website?
The primary difference is how you access the data. The look and feel are different on a mobile device for better on-the-go use. You can use mobile and tablet apps anywhere you can use a mobile device.

Do I need separate accounts for each of my children?
You and your children can access all the information about the buses you need using just one Here Comes the Bus® account.
