Hello,The Iowa City Community School District has a K-12 school counseling program. The purpose of the program is to provide students with personal, social, educational, and career development. The school counseling program collaborates with students, school personnel, parents, and community members to provide a positive school climate and deliver programs which assist all students in the aforementioned areas.

The school counseling program of the District is based on the belief that all students should participate in activities and instruction that will assist in their optimal development. The program is seen as an integral part of the educational process. It is for each and every student.

The Elementary School Counseling Program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of a student’s school experience. Research-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum focuses on knowledge, attitudes and skills students need to acquire in academic, career and social-emotional development, which serve as the foundation for future success.
