  • Information from Principal McGinnis

As a principal, it is my goal to make teaching and learning my primary focus. Everyone knows how day-to-day management tasks and outside distractions can take us away from our desired goals. As a result, I am participating in a nationally tested and proven professional development process called SAM. It uses a unique set of tools to help principals focus on activities that are directly connected to improving teaching and learning.

  • COVID-19 Vaccine Information for Children Ages 12 and Over

Beginning May 13, 2021, children ages 12 and older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine following the Food and Drug Administration’s authorization of the Pfizer vaccine for emergency use in this younger age group. This is the only COVID-19 vaccine available to children at this time. Through our partnership with Johnson County Public Health (JCPH), we are providing information to families on how eligible children can receive the vaccine. We would also like to provide resources for those who wish to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine and children.

  • Updated Quarantine Guidelines

At the April 13, 2021 board meeting, the Board endorsed and approved the District moving to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) COVID-19 Quarantine Guidance. This change allows more students to remain in school while also keeping a focus on health and safety. • Conditions for Learning Student Survey

The Iowa City Community School District is getting ready to administer an annual school climate and culture survey called Conditions for Learning to students in grades 3-12. This survey administration is required by the state’s plan to meet a federal law called the Every Student Succeeds Act. Our District will conduct the survey between April 5-May 28. All Iowa public school districts will use the Conditions for Learning Survey (Survey) to improve safety, student engagement and the overall learning environment so that all Iowa students have optimum conditions for learning. Our work to improve safety, student engagement and the overall learning environment will have a lasting impact on the future.
