Access to Student Records
The board recognizes the importance of maintaining education records and preserving their confidentiality as provided by law. Education records are kept confidential at collection, storage, disclosure and destruction stages.

Harassment/Bullying
The Board prohibits harassment, bullying, hazing, or any other victimization, of students, school employees, applicants, vendors, visitors, and/or volunteers, based on any of the following actual or perceived traits or characteristics, including but not limited to, age, gender, color, creed, national origin, race, religion, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, physical attributes, physical or mental ability or disability, ancestry, political party preference, political belief, socioeconomic status, or familial status.

Homeless Children and Youth
Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) shall provide an educational environment that treats all students with dignity and respect. Every student experiencing homelessness or living in temporary housing situations as defined by the McKinney-Vento Act shall have access to the same free and appropriate educational opportunities as students who are not homeless or experiencing temporary housing situations.

Non-Discrimination Policy Statement
It is the policy of the Iowa City Community School District not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, creed, age (for employment), marital status (for programs), sexual orientation, gender identity and socioeconomic status (for programs) in its educational programs and its employment practices.

Notice of Rights - Section 504
No otherwise qualified persons with disabilities shall, solely by reason of their disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

Notification of Rights under FERPA
FERPA is a federal law designed to protect the privacy of a student's education record. The law applies to all schools which receive funds under an applicable program from the U.S. Department of Education.

Nutrition Services Meal Charging Guideline
In accordance with state and federal law, the Iowa City Community School District adopts the following policy to ensure school district employees, families, and students have a shared understanding of expectations regarding meal charges.

Open Enrollment Athletic Eligibility and Transportation Assistance
In accordance with state law, open enrolled students should be aware that open enrollment may result in loss of athletic eligibility. Families of open enrolled students who meet income eligibility guidelines may qualify for transportation assistance.

Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment
PPRA affords parents of elementary and secondary students certain rights regarding the conduct of surveys, collection and use of information for marketing purposes, and certain physical exams.

It is the policy of this CNP provider not to discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, or religion in its programs, activities, or employment practices as required by the Iowa Code section 216.6, 216.7, and 216.9.

Student Conduct
The board believes inappropriate student conduct causes material and substantial disruption to the school environment, interferes with the rights of others, or presents a threat to the health and safety of students, employees, and visitors on school premises.

Student Directory Information
Directory information is information contained in the education records of a student that would not generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed.

Student Fees
The board recognizes that while fees charged students are appropriate and authorized, certain students and their families are not financially able to pay the fees.

Use of Recording Devices on School Property
The district uses digital recording devices on school property including school transportation vehicles to help protect the safety of district students, employees and community members; and to safeguard district property which is funded using public resources.
