Welcome to Helen Lemme Elementary School! Nestled on the east side of Iowa City, our school serves a fantastic education to approximately 400 students. With a staff of 50 highly qualified teachers, associates, food-service, secretaries, and custodians we work every day to provide an environment where students are safe, motivated, challenged, and performing at high levels.

Student achievement is the priority for our teachers at Lemme. Children in grades K-6 receive a comprehensive education with direct instruction provided in the areas of language arts, math, science, social studies, and health. All students attend library classes, art, music, guidance, computer lab and physical education on a weekly basis, all of which are taught by licensed teachers. English Language Learner and Extended Learning Programs are both available at Lemme Elementary.

At Lemme, we encourage all parents/guardians to become involved in their child’s education. Our Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) is very active and supports our students in many ways. They sponsor many school events, book fairs, organize volunteers, plan fun family nights, and provide supplemental financial support. Their help and cooperation creates a supportive relationship that enhances the total school program.

We believe that children need the opportunity to explore their interests and hobbies. At Lemme we offer orchestra, band, before-school Spanish classes, LEGO league, science club, science fair, safety patrol, and student council. Helen Lemme Elementary strives to ensure a high quality, fun, and safe education for every student, every day!
