Fifth Grade--Class of 2024
Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Amy Nugent
My name is Amy Nugent. I am originally from Arlington Heights, IL. I attended Kensington Elementary, St. James Elementary/Junior High, and Prospect High School in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I graduated from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids with my Associates of Arts degree and transferred to the University of Iowa where I earned my Bachelor's of Arts Degree. I have taken some graduate and continuing education classes. I have taught both sixth and fifth grades since coming to Kirkwood in 2001. I love working with young minds and watching students grow into young adults.
We have homework Monday-Thursday nights that includes reading 20 minutes, a reading log due every other Friday, a spelling packet/words to study, a math assignment, and planner to be signed once all work is completed. We work toward an extra Friday recess by completing all work on time and by following our SOAR expectations.
We use an in class AVID binder to organize our in class work with folders that coordinate with notebooks per subject. We put loose work in the folders and take notes in the notebooks (i.e.two column notes, stories, think/write and word work, taxonomies, etc.). We put our assignments in our planners and homework in take-home binders.
We will be respectful by listening to others and supporting each other. We will do by helping people when they are in need and when they are upset. We will be scholars by being responsible. Also, we will be responsible by taking action for what we have done.
