    2017-2018

The Longfellow staff is looking forward to opening the 2017-2018 school year at the new Hoover Elementary (1355 Barrington Rd, Iowa City). We will call this new school home for the duration of the 2017-2018 school year while our building undergoes a historic renovation. This is an exciting time for the Longfellow community as preparations are underway to ensure a smooth transition for students, families and staff.

Work continues to move forward at the site of the new Hoover Elementary and the District will host a ribbon cutting ceremony when construction is complete, offering tours of the building to help students and families acclimate to the new learning environment. In addition, the Longfellow Ice Cream Social will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 which will also allow for families to explore the new building while meeting with their teachers in preparation for the start of school on August 23rd.

    2019-2020

    Attendance Areas / Home-School Look-Up
In May of 2016, the School Board approved the elementary attendance areas that will go into effect for the 2019-2020 school year.  This change does affect some Longfellow families.  Please review the attendance area maps, along with the Home School Look-Up links, which can be found on the District’s website (www.iowacityschools.org/HomeSchoolLookUp).

    Voluntary Transfers
Questions have arisen regarding whether voluntary transfers back to Longfellow will be an option. Families of fifth grade students in the 2018-2019 school year will be offered a capstone year and their student may stay at Longfellow during their 6th grade year. Families of kindergarten through fourth grade students may apply for a voluntary transfer. These are granted on the basis of availability. A lottery format is utilized when there are multiple requests. Families are responsible for transportation.  The voluntary transfer form is due by July 1st each year.  Additional information can be found on the District’s website (www.iowacityschools.org/VoluntaryTransfers).

Please feel free to contact either Principal Kelli Webb (webb.kelli@iowacityschools.org) or Assistant Superintendent Amy Kortemeyer (Kortemeyer.Amy@iowacityschools.org) if you have any questions.
