Ms. Destiny Rummel
Hello & Welcome!
I am excited to be a part of the Wildcat family for the 2021-2022 school year as a Kindergarten Educator. My name is Destiny Rummel. In 2016, I graduated from Carroll High School, in Carroll Iowa, and moved to Iowa City to study Elementary Education and American Sign Language. December 2020, after student teaching with Travis Dyer, here at Grant Wood, I graduated from the University of Iowa with my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement. I went on to teach 6th grade at Grant Wood for the spring trimester of the 2020-2021 school year. I have a 2-year-old husky named, Navie. I’ve been calling Iowa City home for the past 5 years, and have felt even more at home at Grant Wood.
In my free time, I’ve been reading a ton of books. I have a goal to read 52 books this year, 1 per week. Reading for leisure is one of the best ways to practice comprehension and fluency skills and I encourage you and your child to read together each night. I also live a very active lifestyle: teaching fitness classes, as well as bicycling and golfing during the warmer months. I coach cross country and track and field at Liberty High School. As an active Iowa City community memeber, PLEASE invite me to support your child outside of school, too.
I am dedicated to the growth, development, and academic success of your child, not only as a student but as an individual as well. My teaching philosophy is to create a positive and nurturing learning environment for all learners. Connecting with students is imperative when creating a collaborative experience in a classroom atmosphere. I have found that as connections grow, engagement within lessons, and discussions increase. I plan to frequently incorporate small group learning across all content areas, and individualized instruction to directly meet the needs of each child.
I look forward to working with your child each and every day.
Grit & Grace,
