Van Allen's Before & After School Program (BASP)

  • Van Allen BASP Located at James Van Allen Elementary School (170 Abigail Ave. North Liberty) in the Cafeteria.  While providing quality before and after school care is the primary purpose of the program, our secondary mission is to educate our program participants about the importance of leisure and recreation. Children will have the opportunity to try many recreational activities, as well as help in the planning of the activities in which they participate. Through this process, children build self-esteem and life planning skills, which benefit their growth.

  • Schedule

    Before School

    • Breakfast available from 7:00-7:45 am
    • Supervised free-play activities
    • Children are helped to their classroom


    After School

    • Snack time in Cafeteria
    • Quiet time/ homework time
    • Crafts and “activity of the day”
    • Supervised free-play activities


    During the School Year

    Children have the option to choose a variety of recreational games, arts and crafts, homework time, recess, and much more during the before and after school program. A breakfast and afternoon snack is served daily.  

    School Cancellation Days

    In the event of a school cancellation, we observe the following:

    • For blizzard, inclement weather, etc., the program will not be held.
    • If due to heat, the after school program will be held.


    Scheduled No-School Days

    For scheduled out-of-school days, participants will have the opportunity to sign up for child care for the following:

    • Conference Days
    • Winter Break (a portion of the break available)
    • Spring Break


    Enrollment

    Return the attached application form to Van Allen Elementary School. Children will be enrolled in the program on a first come, first served basis.

    *Children can be added to the waiting list the first Tuesday after Labor Day two years before entering kindergarten.

Hours

  • Before School: 7:00-8:20 AM
    After School: 3:00-5:45 PM
    Thursday Afternoons: 2:00-5:45 PM
    No-School Days: 7:00 AM-5:45 PM

Tuition

  • Before School Only: $100/month
    After School Only: $180/month
    Before and After School: $210/month
    Out of School Days: $35 - 45/day

SPARK Day Camp

  • Summer Programming
    SPARK is a summer recreational day camp for children who have completed kindergarten to those entering sixth grade. We offer 9-10 weekly sessions that are theme-based and provide weekly field trips and special events in the area. Registration opens in the spring. 

    Basic SPARK Camp Hours: 8:15 am-4:30 pm

    Extended Day SPARK Camp Hours: 7:15-8:15 am & 4:30-5:30 pm
