The District is committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce populated by highly skilled and dedicated individuals culturally sensitive and committed to every student thriving in a 21st century learning environment.
While our business is educating students, providing a work environment that is conducive to employee success is crucial to the District fulfilling its overall vision and mission. Human Resources is committed to creating and maintaining a climate and culture that embraces diversity, focuses on student success, and expects high achievement from students and staff. The HR team strives to provide opportunities that allow our employees to grow as educators and leaders. Leadership takes place at all levels of the organization; it is important we provide our employees the tools and strengths needed to tackle these critical roles. Organization sustainability is not built on the next recruit but rather by empowering the current workforce to develop into the District’s leaders of tomorrow.
We are excited that you are considering employment with the Iowa City Community School District. If you are interested in joining our team, please review the District's current vacancies or read additional information in our frequently asked questions.
To establish a complete application file, please complete the online application in Applitrack. If after submitting your initial application you see another position you are qualified for, you must log in to your application and submit to each job vacancy separately in order to be considered. If your qualifications meet the needs, the hiring administrator will contact you for further information and a possible interview.
You will be able to upload your resume and cover letter when you complete your online application. The most recently uploaded document will be the only one available online for all hiring administrators to view so it is best to attach a more generic cover letter. There will be directions prompting you how and when to attach your documents. The entire online application must be filled out even if you are attaching a resume with work history.
Please be aware that applications missing items that may include: blank sections, months and years of employment not included, missing reference contact information, gaps in employment not explained, address/phone number may be considered incomplete. You will not be contacted of an incomplete status so please read the directions on the application carefully. Workplace studies such as TeacherFit and JobFit have a unique set of questions for each applicant and cannot be accessed by the District. Such quizzes can only be retaken after a six month period.
Once the application is submitted electronically, it will be reviewed by the hiring administrator or designee. Should he/she determine that your qualifications meet the needs of the vacancy, he/she will communicate by phone and/or email to set up an interview. Due to the high volume of applications the District receives, it is not possible to respond directly to all applicants, only to those whose candidacy is being pursued. In addition, the length of the recruitment process varies based on the district’s needs. Traditionally, the process takes approximately 2-8 weeks. Therefore, your patience is greatly appreciated. All applicants to a vacancy will receive electronic communication when the vacancy is formally filled.
If a position is no longer posted on the District's site, it could either be filled or we could still be reviewing applications or conducting the interviews. We do not accept applications after the posted deadline. If you have missed a deadline and wish to be considered for future opportunities, you will need to review the site and resubmit your application to newly posted vacancies.
