Trademark Use Guidelines & Licensing

The Iowa City Community School District (the “District”) owns many wordmarks and logos (collectively “Trademarks”) which reflect the identity and reputation of the District. These Trademarks are a visual representation of the District, and it is critically important that they be used in a legal, proper, and consistent way. All requests to use the Trademarks must be submitted to Kristin Pedersen, Executive Director of Community Relations. Use of any of the Trademarks is not permitted without prior written approval.

If approved, the Trademarks must be used in accordance with the terms and standards outlined in these guidelines. Some approvals may require entering into a formal written license agreement and the payment of fees. Other approvals may be granted more informally and on a fee-free basis. All approvals will be on a non-exclusive basis unless otherwise specifically noted in writing. You agree to indemnify and hold the District harmless from any third-party claims related to your use of the Trademarks.

The District retains final authority over:

  • Quality standards for all products and materials bearing the Trademarks
  • Where products bearing the Trademarks may be sold or distributed
  • How products bearing the Trademarks are marketed, displayed, or sold
  • Any other factors related to the manufacture, use, and distribution of the Trademarks

By requesting and receiving approval to use one or more of the Trademarks, you agree to abide by these terms and standards and understand that authorization to use the Trademarks may be withdrawn at any time at the District’s sole discretion.
