The Health Services Department is committed to supporting student health, safety, and well-being so every student is healthy, safe, and ready to learn.

Our team includes a Senior Health Services Manager and registered nurses who provide nursing services in every school across the district. Each nurse is assigned to specific buildings, fostering strong relationships with students, families, and staff while serving as an integral member of the school team.

Working alongside school nurses, building secretaries administer medications, provide basic first aid, and support students' daily health needs. One-on-one health paraeducators provide individualized care for students with significant health needs.

School nurses provide direct nursing care, respond to medical emergencies, coordinate care with families and healthcare providers, maintain student health records, provide staff training and supervision, and promote healthy school environments through education and prevention.

Healthy Kids School-Based Health Clinics are an extension of the traditional health services provided in the district. The Clinic is a community collaboration that provides free health care services, including physical health, mental health, dental, and vision care to uninsured and underinsured children in Johnson County. Learn more about Healthy Kids School-Based Health Clinics.

The occurrence of health conditions affecting our students is similar to occurrences nationwide. The District has students with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, genetic syndromes, immune disorders, heart problems, asthma, other respiratory problems, seizures, severe food allergies, ADHD, and so on. Mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse also affect an increasing number of students.
