ICCSD Community Engagement Opportunity

ICCSD Welcomes Families with the Opening of New Welcome Center

Our Welcome Center is a place for school registration support for both families who are new to the area and current families who need assistance. Families can register for school, get their questions answered, set up school tours, and connect with school and community supports and resources. The goal is to make families feel welcome and connected during the enrollment process, while reducing barriers and building relationships.

New Student Programming at our Center for Innovation

The Center for Innovation is expanding hands-on, career-connected learning through programs like the Junior Achievement Dream Accelerator and new Kirkwood Career Academies. Students explore career interests through classroom lessons, interactive simulations, and real-world experiences while earning Work-Based Learning credit and Industry-Recognized Credentials. New health care pathways and future academies in Pre-Nursing, Education, and Business will continue to expand postsecondary opportunities for students.

District Receives STEM BEST® Program Award

The Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council at the Department of Education announced the Iowa City Community School District as one of the 31 school districts to receive the 2026-27 STEM BEST® (Businesses Engaging Students and Teachers) Program award. The STEM BEST® Program brings schools and businesses together to provide students with real workplace experiences, introduce businesses and career opportunities in Iowa, and gain career-ready skills.

Esme Hutchinson-Reuss, City High

As a City High senior, Esme Hutchinson-Reuss is the lead in one fall play and the villain in another. As a freshman, however, her plan wasn’t even to be an actor. 

In her first week of high school, Hutchinson-Reuss heard an announcement about theatre auditions. She decided to try out for the production crew, where she could lean on her artistic background.

Food support update: SNAP interruption, school meals, and local resources

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) provides monthly food benefits that help eligible households buy groceries. Due to the federal government shutdown, SNAP benefits are expected to expire at the end of October. We know this will create stress for many households, and we want to make sure everyone knows what support is available.

Julian Manson, West High

It is an exciting time for Julian Manson. The West High senior committed to play football at the University of Iowa in June and is currently leading the Trojan football team to its winningest start since 2020. 

Manson is rated the top recruit in Iowa and a four-star prospect by national college football outlets. He was an All-State player last season, earning scholarship offers from ACC, Big 12, and Big Ten Conference schools.
