Financial Oversight Committee

The Iowa City Community School District Board of Education has established a Financial Oversight Committee to strengthen transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the district's financial practices. Serving in an advisory role to the Board of Education, the committee provides independent oversight and recommendations related to the district's financial reporting, budgeting, audits, internal controls, risk management, and long-term financial sustainability. All final decisions remain with the Board of Education.

The committee includes 5-7 community members with expertise in areas such as accounting, auditing, finance, banking, business leadership, risk management, or law, along with two Board of Education liaisons and the Chief Financial Officer serving in non-voting roles. Community members are selected through an application process and are expected to attend regular meetings, complete required open meetings and open records training, and provide thoughtful, independent advice to the Board.

Timeline:
  • Applications are due by July 13, 2026, at 11:59 pm.
  • Applications will be reviewed by a committee July 14-20.
  • The nomination meeting will be held the week of July 20, and nominees will be selected and submitted to the Board by July 24.
  • Nominees will be presented to the Board of Education at the July 28 board meeting
