Purpose
The purpose of the ICCSD Policy & Governance Committee is to ensure that the district governance policies remain current and relevant for providing direction to the Board and Superintendent in achieving the mission of the Iowa City Community School District.
Accountability
The committee will report to the full Board of Directors. Although the committee will be expected to identify changes needed as outlined in the responsibilities, actions must be referred back to the Board for approval and implementation by the full Board of Education.
Committee Chair
One of the three duly appointed committee members will be elected by committee members to serve as the committee Chair. The responsibilities of the Chair will be to construct and publish an agenda for each meeting, lead the meeting at the appointed time, and report to the full board the activities of the committee.
Responsibilities
1. To lead the process for continuously reviewing and renewing the district governance policies.
2. To ensure that the Board and Superintendent are adequately trained on the policies and their intent.
3. To ensure that information is readily available to the public that explains the policies and their intent.
Process
Membership
The committee will be renewed each year during the organizational meeting. The committee will consist of three Board members with one (1) alternate.
Classification
The committee will be a standing Board committee.
