- Whenever the Superintendent deems it necessary, the Superintendent may appoint an advisory committee to assist the District.
- Advisory committees shall require a Superintendent directive that shall outline the duties and purpose of the advisory committee.
- Generally, the primary function of an advisory committee is to give specific advice and suggestions.
- The advice and suggestions should focus on the purpose and duties stated in the Superintendent directive establishing the advisory committee.
- Advisory committees are advisory in nature and have no duty or responsibility other than that specifically stated in the Superintendent directive.
- The advisory committee may make recommendations to the Superintendent and, through the Superintendent, to the Board.
- The Superintendent may receive the report of the committee for advisory consideration.
- The Superintendent retains the authority to make a final decision on the issue.
- Advisory committees are ad hoc committees.
- The advisory committee shall automatically dissolve upon the delivery of its final recommendation or upon completion of the duties outlined in the Superintendent directive.
Membership
- Advisory committee members are appointed by the Superintendent.
- Advisory committee members may serve for one three year term.
- Advisory committee members may serve on only one advisory committee at a time.
- Advisory committee members shall wait a minimum of one year prior to reappointment to an advisory committee.
- The Superintendent may request input on advisory committee membership from individuals or organizations, or the Superintendent may seek volunteers to serve.
- To the extent possible, and when the necessary expertise required allows, the advisory committee members will be representative of the District community and will consider various viewpoints on the issue.
- To the extent possible, and where appropriate, advisory committee membership shall have balanced representation with regard to students, parents, district employees, and representatives from the local community, which may include representatives of business, industry, labor, community agencies, higher education, or other community constituents.
- To the extent possible, advisory committee membership shall have balanced representation with regard to race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, creed, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity and socioeconomic status.
- The advisory committee shall select its own chairperson unless the Superintendent designates otherwise.
- The Superintendent shall appoint a staff liaison to serve as their representative to the advisory committee.
- This Superintendent staff liaison shall be non-voting and shall not serve as the chairperson.
- Other District employees serve as voting members on the committee and may serve as chairperson of the committee.
Meetings
- Advisory committees are not required to post an agenda in advance.
- Advisory committees are not open to the public.
- Advisory committees do not require formal minutes to be kept.
