Annual training for the 2026-2027 school year will open on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Please review the information below and complete all assigned training no later than Friday, October 2, 2026. Due to recent changes in some new legislation, additional mandatory training may be assigned at a later time. If new training becomes required, employees will be notified with information regarding the training content, deadlines, and completion instructions.

Congratulations to Marjorie Lane, Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Teacher and ICCSD FCS Content Lead, who was recently honored with the Iowa Association for Career and Technical Education (Iowa ACTE) Award of Merit at their state conference!

The first day of school is Monday, August 24, and we have been busy preparing to welcome students back. It's been exciting to see our schools come back to life as everyone gets ready for students to return.

As part of the Iowa City Community School District's ongoing commitment to strengthening financial transparency, accountability, and public trust, the process to establish the District's new Financial Oversight Committee reached an important milestone this week.
After receiving 113 applications, a community-based Vetting Committee convened this week to review the submissions and recommend nominees to serve on the Financial Oversight Committee. Greater Iowa City, Inc. served as a neutral convener throughout the process, bringing together respected leaders from education, business, finance, and the nonprofit community to independently evaluate applicants.

The Iowa City Community School District has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Community Foundation of Johnson County to support the installation of sensory pathways at Borlaug Elementary, Coralville Central Elementary, and Kirkwood Elementary. These colorful, interactive pathways will be placed in school hallways and on sidewalks to give students structured opportunities for movement throughout the day, helping them build focus, self-regulation, and readiness to learn.

Staff Opportunities
Iowa City Schools offer American Heart Association (AHA) CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) classes to staff designed to teach life-saving skills to individuals of all backgrounds. These courses provide hands-on training in performing CPR on adults, children, and infants, using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and responding to choking emergencies. AHA classes are tailored for both healthcare professionals and general participants, ensuring that participants gain the confidence and knowledge to act quickly during cardiac emergencies. Certification is often required for various professions, but it's also valuable for anyone wanting to be prepared to save a life.
