As we approach registration for the 2025-26 school year, we want to remind you that any request for school meal modifications due to food allergy or food intolerance, requires a completed Diet Modification Form, signed by an approved medical professional and provided to your school. This documentation is essential to ensure that we can accurately and safely honor meal modification requests for your student.
Please review our Food Allergy Protocols. The protocols list guidelines for parents/guardians and staff on how to provide a safe educational environment for food-allergic students so exposure to food allergens is minimized.
Last year, Mann Elementary teacher Suzanne Fraser noticed a problem: too many students arrived at school without winter garments on cold days.
“I thought to myself, how can I make a small change in that?” said Fraser.
Fraser, who teaches special education, asked friends and family whether they could order a box of hats and gloves to be delivered to a group of elementary buildings.

Staff Opportunities
Iowa City Schools offer American Heart Association (AHA) CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) classes to staff designed to teach life-saving skills to individuals of all backgrounds. These courses provide hands-on training in performing CPR on adults, children, and infants, using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and responding to choking emergencies. AHA classes are tailored for both healthcare professionals and general participants, ensuring that participants gain the confidence and knowledge to act quickly during cardiac emergencies. Certification is often required for various professions, but it's also valuable for anyone wanting to be prepared to save a life.
The University of Iowa is interested in faculty, administrators, staff, graduate students, and any others in higher education roles who are very interested in teaching. They are also very interested in having as many colleagues from K-12 spaces (teachers, administrators, counselors, staff members, etc.) as possible, so feel free to share to all your networks.
