COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Information
Late Thursday, September 23, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finalized their recommendation for COVID-19 vaccine boosters. The CDC has authorized the administration of the third booster shot of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for eligible individuals, which will include District employees that meet the following criteria.
You are eligible for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine booster if:
- You have received both your first and second doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine* and
- It has been six months since your second dose was administered
*PLEASE NOTE: At this time, the only vaccine authorized for boosters is the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines are currently under review for determination of if and when booster doses are necessary.
Eligible individuals may schedule their booster appointment through University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics here: https://uihc.org/schedule-
Qualified individuals will be asked to show their original vaccine card when obtaining the booster. If you no longer have your COVID-19 vaccine card, you may access this information in your UIHC My Chart account if you received your vaccine through one of the District’s UIHC facilitated clinics. If you received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, you are not eligible to receive the Pfizer booster vaccine. We will provide additional information as it becomes available regarding booster doses for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.
Additional information regarding the guidance on COVID-19 boosters can be found on the CDC’s website. As a reminder, first and second dose COVID-19 vaccines are currently available to all individuals ages 12 and older. For those who have not yet received the COVID-19 vaccine, this vaccine locator may be used to find a provider near you.
