Summer 2021 Health and Safety Guidance

Beginning June 14, 2021, the Iowa City Community School District will start reintegrating certain practices that were suspended or modified during the 2020-2021 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The below guidance focuses on District building access and general use. Health and safety guidelines related to the instructional day for the 2021-2022 school year will be published on August 11, 2021.  Health and safety remain a priority for the District. The District will continue to monitor COVID-19 rates and will make adjustments as needed.

Community Use: The District will begin allowing full community use of District buildings in compliance with the District’s Facility Use Guidelines

Visitors: Visitors, outside presenters, community partners, and volunteers may access buildings and assist with summer programs and activities.

Room Capacity: Social distancing remains an important health measure. While in-person meetings and gatherings on school campuses are allowed, the number of participants at the event should be limited to 50% of the room capacity of the space being utilized. There is no limit on individuals at outdoor events as long as social distancing can be maintained.

Field Trips: Field trips and travel experiences outside the District (and State) are allowed.

Athletics and Activities: Athletics and activities at all grade levels may meet in person.

Athletic Facilities (including locker rooms): All facilities including locker rooms will be available for full use. This includes use by the community in compliance with the District’s Facility Use Guidelines

Quarantine Protocol: The District will not quarantine exposed or “close contact” students during summer 2021. If the District becomes aware of a positive COVID-19 individual, the positive individual will be excluded from activities and programming and contact tracing will take place. Close contacts will be notified; however, it will be the decision of each individual whether to quarantine. Quarantine protocols for the 2021-2022 school year will be determined and published no later than August 11, 2021.
