Summer Food Service Program

The Iowa City School District and the Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County are participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all eligible children free of charge.  In addition to the school sites listed below, there are several off-site locations that will also be serving meals throughout the summer.  The off-site locations can be found here: (DOWNLOAD FLYER)


Lunch and afternoon snacks will be provided at all sites Monday through Friday from June 10 through August 9 (no meals July 1-5). Times:

  • Alexander Elementary: 12-1 pm/3-3:30 pm
  • Garner Elementary: 11-11:30 am/3-3:30 pm
  • Twain Elementary: 12-1 pm/3-4 pm

Breakfast and lunch will be provided at these sites Monday through Friday from June 10 through August 9 (no meals July 1-5).

  • Kirkwood Elementary at NWJH: 9-9:30 am/12 noon-12:30 pm


To be eligible to receive free meals at a residential or non-residential camp, children must meet the income guidelines for reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program. The income guidelines for reduced-price meals by family size are listed below. Children who are part of households that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps) benefits or benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) are automatically eligible to receive free meals.

Income Guidelines
Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. 

To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the
USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, (AD-3027) found online at and at any USDA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form.
