The Iowa City Community School District’s Community Education program is excited to announce the allocation of $50,000 in community education funds to provide tuition assistance to students in Before and After School programs. The fund will support families who meet income guidelines and/or are experiencing a family emergency such as homelessness, incarceration, serious illness, etc. Waiting lists are also a barrier to families accessing after school care, therefore, for the 2017-2018 school year the BASPs will be asked to set aside 1 to 4 slots for families accessing the scholarship program.
“It is our goal to make all of our District programs accessible to diverse populations. Having tuition assistance is an opportunity to break down barriers to participation,” stated Kingsley Botchway, Director of Equity and Engagement for the District. “Students and families need our help and we need the help of the BASPs to serve them.”
Amy Faulkner with the City of Coralville Parks and Recreation department was instrumental in developing the scholarship program. Please review this flyer for additional details.
