Update on COVID-19 and Building Restrictions

With the growing concerns related to Coronavirus (also known as COVID-19) and the announcement that the virus is now community spread in the state, the Iowa City Community School District will implement the following campus restrictions beginning Monday, March 16, 2020.

  • All extracurricular activities and athletics (practices and competitions) will be suspended until further notice.
  • All community/outside use of our buildings will be suspended until further notice.  This includes anyone that has obtained current or future permission for facility use.
Exception: all BASP programming and the school-based health clinics will remain open over Spring Break.
  • All non-essential visitors and deliveries to our buildings will be suspended until further notice.
  • All out-of-state travel for both staff and students will be suspended until further notice.

By taking this step to suspend the above activities, our goal is to implement preventive measures – from social distancing to additional cleanings in our buildings – as well as give us more time to assess the spread of COVID-19 in our area.

The Board of Directors will hold a special meeting with District administrators at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, March 17.  They plan to discuss and evaluate the factors impacting our students and staff regarding COVID-19, with a specific focus on our plans for school after Spring Break.

We continue to focus on protecting our families and our staff from the spread of this virus.  We will continue to update families as additional information is available.
