Message from the Superintendent
Dear Families and Staff,
I write to you today, not to share additional information, but to share my sincere gratitude for our school district family. We are experiencing an unprecedented time in our lives, however, I fully believe that the strength of our community will prevail.
Over the past few weeks, we have participated in extensive collaboration with our community partners as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. This has resulted in candid conversations and difficult decisions, however, as a community, we have met this challenge with full force. I have never been more proud to be a part of this community and a part of this team.
Closing schools is never an easy decision. As a district, we are doing what we can to respond both proactively and effectively to ensure we have the right supports in place for our students, families, and staff. I assure you that the safety and health of our Iowa City Community School District family and supporting our entire community is our greatest priority at this time.
While this has been a rapidly-evolving situation and a tremendous amount of information has been thrown at you, the most important thing I want you to remember is to take care of yourself. Listen to and follow the precautionary actions that are being recommended. Extraordinary measures are needed as this is an extraordinary time in our lives.
Our goal is to provide stability and support to help offset the uncertainty and fear. We will continue to provide updates in the days ahead as our district administrative team works to determine the next steps. Thank you for your understanding and patience. We are a strong, supportive community and it will be crucial that we work together through these unprecedented times.
