We hope that this email finds you and your family doing well. We are thinking about all of you, miss you dearly, and cannot wait until we get to see you again.
Over the last few weeks, we have continued to communicate resources that provide Voluntary Educational Enrichment Opportunities for our students and families. We initially shared a list of optional resources in the ICCSD Student Enrichment Opportunities. Last week we provided a more specific recommendation around two educational programs: Lexia for reading and DreamBox for math. Your child’s classroom teacher can help you with any questions you have about Lexia and DreamBox. This includes questions about access, monitoring usage, and offering resources if your child encounters issues.
As you consider the types of educational opportunities to engage your children in, we would ask that you please consider those that can provide continuity of instruction. We understand that you have many educational products from which to choose. However, given the adaptive nature of Lexia and DreamBox, we believe these are some of the best avenues to help ensure continuity of instruction. This is particularly true if students are meeting the recommended weekly requirements (i.e. 20-30 minutes per day). We are thrilled to see the participation in these products begin to take hold! We have seen the usage of the Lexia product increase from 26% in March to 37% in early April. DreamBox product usage increased from 41% in March to 50% in early April. Way to go Iowa City Community School District elementary students! We are proud of this progress and are eager to see what next week brings.
This week we are featuring a few new items for your consideration. As with the above opportunities, participation in these activities is completely voluntary.
- Daily Schedule - If you are interested in utilizing a daily schedule with your K-6 student, please consider this suggestion.
- Preschool Daily Schedule - If you are interested in utilizing a daily schedule with your preschool student, please consider this suggestion.
- Reading Challenge - Our teacher librarians have created a fun reading challenge for our students.
Please continue to reach out to your child’s teacher and principal with any questions or concerns you might have. We understand each family’s situation is unique and will do our best to provide the support that you need for your child’s educational progress and emotional well-being. Take care. #ICCSDtogether
