Return-to-Learn Update (7/8/20)
Our Return-to-Learn planning and preparations continue across the District as we look ahead to safely welcoming our students and staff back in August. Our families and staff understandably have questions as to what this will look like and we hope to provide information and clarification to help ease minds as we prepare for our return.
This week, we provided the Board an update on our Return-to-Learn planning and the recommendations that have been made up to this point. Our commitment to you with this work is to keep a sharp focus on health and safety, academics, equity, flexibility, and parent choice. These have been key areas of priority throughout our decision making.
We invite you to watch this short video from Interim Superintendent Matt Degner that helps to describe our current status with our Return-to-Learn work.
In our update, we provide further details regarding the three learning models that may be utilized when we return to school: On-Site, Off-Site, or a Hybrid model. There is a crucial element of parent choice that is available for each model. We understand that each family situation is different and the option for parent choice is necessary to ensure the continued health, safety, and comfort of families when returning to school.
In addition, we outlined several key areas, such as academic instruction, class size, transportation, and daily health screenings, to describe how these areas look within each learning model. The full update can be found on our dedicated Return-to-Learn website at www.IowaCitySchools.org/ReturnToLearn.
We would like to emphasize that the decisions and recommendations that have been made will continue to be evaluated and may possibly change due to the constantly evolving COVID-19 situation. However, we will continue to provide transparent and timely updates to families and staff each week and we encourage you to visit our Return-to-Learn website for complete details, resources, and information. Take care. #ICCSDtogether
