Superintendent's Student Advisory Council

The Superintendent's Student Advisory Council represents a diverse group of students from each high school in our District. The purpose of this Council is for students to engage with the Superintendent and other members of District leadership in meaningful dialogue while sharing their views and perspectives on student-driven and District-driven topics. The goal is to provide a space for students to share ideas, celebrations, concerns, and questions with the Superintendent while also hearing first-hand from administrators about District initiatives, decisions, and other important issues.

Mission

  • To provide a space for students to share ideas, celebrations, concerns, and questions with the Superintendent while also hearing first-hand from administrators about District initiatives, decisions, and other important issues
  • To engage diverse student voices and gather input on District initiatives
  • To encourage students to communicate honestly, openly, and directly with the Superintendent and other District leaders
  • To allow students the opportunity to share feedback, experiences, and perspectives on various issues affecting students within their schools and their community
  • To have students work collaboratively with the Superintendent and other District leaders to help create improved student experiences in our schools
  • To encourage members to serve as advocates for all students
  • To provide two-way communication between students and District leadership

Member Eligibility

Students from grades 11 and 12 are eligible to be members of the council and will serve, if possible, through their graduation. The goal is to have four members from each high school. Students of the Council are selected with the goal of achieving academic, socioeconomic, and cultural diversity among members.

Meeting Structure

Meetings will be held four times per school year (September, November, February, and April) during the school day. Meeting locations will rotate between each high school. Students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the meetings. The Iowa City Community School District is not responsible for transporting students. If transportation is a barrier to participation, please contact the building principal to discuss transportation options.
